Stock Removal Knife Making Classes

Stainless Steel - Stock Removal

575.00

2.5 day course. Student will create: 

-CPM-154 CM stainless steel (or equivalent)

-Full tang 8.5" Chef knife with flat grind.

-Dovetail Bolsters

-Stabilized wooden handle 

-One mosaic pin of choice for handle

-Heat Treat in Even Heat digital oven. 

-All materials for one knife are included

-For an additional fee, students can upgrade handle material to exotic wood, bone, tusk(mammoth), tooth(mammoth) or other phenolic, Micarta, Kirinite, Hybrid, antler, etc. as supplies afford.

Damascus Steel - Stock Removal

2.5 Day Course

-Same process as Stainless Steel class but:

-Stainless steel is substituted for a damascus billet made from 15n20 X 1084 high carbon steel. 

-Etching with Ferric Chloride to reveal pattern.

-For an additional fee, student can upgrade to different Damascus patterns.

3 Day course - 

similar format to the 2.5 day course but we have an extra half day for forging a simple random pattern billet. 


Damascus Only

2 Day Course - Basic Damascus - Ladder, twist, random.

Make a bar of Damascus

Variable but starts around $500.00

Student will create a alternating stack of 15n20 and 1084 layers, weld them together, add a handle, and use the hydraulic press and rolling mill to create a pattern welded billet. Different dies and grinds can be done to change the pattern, limited only to the time available in the course.


**Please contact me and we can work out the details.  In the past students would give me an idea of how much finished steel they want and which pattern they are trying for and we would go from there.
